#OnThisDay in 1978, the Pioneer Venus Orbiter was launched.

Setting off from Cape Canaveral, it took 198 days, or just over six months to reach Venus, where it orbited until October 1992.

#OnThisDay in 1902, the Antikythera mechanism was discovered.

The oldest known example of an analogue computer, it was used to calculate the positions of the sun and moon, phases of the moon and possibly other planets 🪐

#OnThisDay in 1969, Venera 5 reached Venus🪐

Carried by a parachute through Venus' atmosphere, it returned data for 53 minutes before it lost contact with Earth. 🛰️

It recorded data about the atmosphere such as the temperature, pressure and density of the gas around it.

At #GalacticGathering Jake Lunt Davies, JAKe and Tahra Zafar worked together, with visitors' help, to design and make a Star Wars alien. The final creature was named Dr Voxta Servious from the planet of Rana Yol-Otti.
