The time is NOW to advocate for ISAs. Why is the NCAA always neglecting to consider them?

Here we go, Amy Maldonado 🗽. I’ve always said the employee issue in immigration is coming and much faster than most appreciate. Congress needs to act immediately to enact legislation that will prevent int’l athletes from being immediately in violation of their visa restrictions.

As Amy Maldonado 🗽 and I mentioned to On3, this bill would benefit from a definition of “NIL” as I promise you, you do not want US Citizenship and Immigration Services introducing their own interpretation. The agency doesn’t understand sports or industry standards.

Federal legislation has been introduced in the House that would allow international athletes with student visas to engage in #NIL activities while in the US.

Currently, they can receive passive NIL income or via “work” outside the US.

Rep. Mike Flood (R-Nebraska) and Rep. Valerie Foushee (D-North Carolina) have introduced a bipartisan reform bill in the House of Representatives to address significant challenges for international athletes in the NIL space.

One thing that no one is talking about is that declaring student-athletes employees makes it impossible for universities to comply with their I-9 obligations. Every institution needs to be concerned bc this is coming!
