Because of course. Reducing numbers at Manston cannot mean dumping vulnerable asylum seekers. Not to mention that the Home Office can potentially use an asylum seeker being homeless as a reason to detain and deport them.

I've never felt unwelcomed in my adopted home, the UK but sadly this normalisation of hatred influenced by the inflammatory language of the Home Secretary is creating hostility, suspicion and divisions amongst communities. For the first time my wife asked me, if we are safe here.

This is an important point 👇

Lot's of people trapped in Manston don't have to wait for hotel accommodation to be provided. They have family in the UK who can house them - they can't organise that because their phones have been taken from them by Border Force.

There have been multiple instances of far-right groups targeting hotels accommodating asylum seekers. Even had there not have been a far-right firebomb attack at the weekend, revealing the location directly puts asylum seekers, including children, in harms way.

Incredibly important thread by Andrew Wallis OBE, for any journalist talking about channel crossings. Smuggling and trafficking are two different things. By using the wrong terms in reports it can lead to misunderstandings, and even hostility towards victims.

Hi The News Agents Lewis Goodall emily m Thanks for covering the illegal entry issue but a plea for accuracy. When referring to what is happening with small boats in the Channel please call it . It is not . Definitions really matter in this debate 1/3

Even the Home Office acknowledges that its use of hotels for separated children is illegal. It needs to stop immediately, and children placed within existing, legal, child frameworks.

Inger den Haan (immigration) Daniel Sohege 🧡 I’ve also worked with Albanian male labour trafficking survivors who have also been subject to severe sexual abuse. It’s used as a form of control, violence and for profit eg pornography. It’s obviously not something most people would want to share publicly.

Sunak responds to a question about asylum with an answer about freedom of movement and immigration. They are not the same thing.

Researchers: is anyone doing comparative research on political comms around the different UK refugee schemes: Ukraine, Hong Kong BNOs, resettlement and spontaneous arrivals. Esp interested to read about whether any resettlement schemes have attracted far-right pressure/opposition

Asylum policy is getting very, very dark. Concentrating refugees in overcrowded, diseased camps. Accusing them of ‘invasion’ and blaming them for society’s ills. Measuring their bodies to apply pseudo-science. Shipping them off to third countries far away. independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

The Home Sec excuse for causing crisis at Manston is difficulty in procuring accommodation. I m aware that a number of detainees including my clients have provided address for their release which the Home Sec has refused to act upon.
