I've never felt unwelcomed in my adopted home, the UK but sadly this normalisation of hatred influenced by the inflammatory language of the Home Secretary is creating hostility, suspicion and divisions amongst communities. For the first time my wife asked me, if we are safe here.

Lot's of people trapped in Manston don't have to wait for hotel accommodation to be provided. They have family in the UK who can house them - they can't organise that because their phones have been taken from them by Border Force.

There have been multiple instances of far-right groups targeting hotels accommodating asylum seekers. Even had there not have been a far-right firebomb attack at the weekend, revealing the location directly puts asylum seekers, including children, in harms way.

Incredibly important thread by Andrew Wallis OBE, for any journalist talking about channel crossings. Smuggling and trafficking are two different things. By using the wrong terms in reports it can lead to misunderstandings, and even hostility towards victims.

Even the Home Office acknowledges that its use of hotels for separated children is illegal. It needs to stop immediately, and children placed within existing, legal, child frameworks.

The Home Sec excuse for causing crisis at Manston is difficulty in procuring accommodation. I m aware that a number of detainees including my clients have provided address for their release which the Home Sec has refused to act upon.
