Very sad that Carl Morris, Emeritus Professor of Statistics at Harvard, has passed away. He was, for example, the most influential empirical Bayesian of the 70s & 80s. A dedicated teacher & mentor, he was full of common sense, encouragement & cheer. statistics.fas.harvard.edu/people/carl-n-…

Hi #EconTwitter! In search of a solid intro to probability theory? Check out this very nice book by Joe Blitzstein (Joe Blitzstein, Harvard University) and Jessica Hwang. It's packed with examples and exercises, focuses on learning through simulation, and stresses real-world applications.
Am looking forward to teaching at Harvard with Joe Blitzstein (Joe Blitzstein) in the Spring. Our undergraduate class is Stat111 "Introduction to Statistical Inference." It currently has 350 students registered for it, the 4th biggest class at Harvard.
Matt Blackwell But all models are fiction. :) Measurements are discrete, but some concepts (temperatures, heights) are more intuitive to model as continuous, no? Btw I like this helpful & cute animation by Joe Blitzstein, Anqi Zhao, and their team: youtube.com/watch?v=iA0xRU…
