We're in a golden age of crime fiction, we really are. I've read some amazing stuff recently that's bending the genre into entirely new shapes, but the standouts so far are Chris Whitaker and Chris Brookmyre. Their new ones are astonishing. Awards will rain down.

I’ve just finished Displeasure Island by Alice Bell and it’s fucking delightful. The mystery trips you up every ten pages, the characters feel like mates, and it’s effortlessly funny - which is so hard to do. I adored this. It deserves to be enormous!

If an author tops the Sunday Times bestseller list and the Sunday Times doesn’t print the list this week did it really happen? Bit gutted, as I’ll likely never do it again and I wanted my mum to see it in the paper.
