Picking in full swing with winter crop being planted close behind. Need to be actively managing the glyphosate resistant ryegrass population beneath the canopy to keep numbers down in subsequent rotations.

How many do you do? What is the sweet spot? As canola is emerging across the district we are out checking stands to work out replanting and management strategies. Luckily with a generally good start we are seeing some healthy stand number.

The seasons of change. A week ago we were handpicking samples out of a cotton trial, this week it’s picked, mulched and disced ready to sow barley in front of the next rain end of this week.

Capitalising on stored soil moisture most Dryland farmers sow on! The difference between worked and sprayed fallow management very obvious now with stubble holding good moisture while worked paddocks drying out. This barely emerging in just 4 days.

Picking Underway!! We have seen a flurry of activity over the weekend with the green lie detectors rolling in. If early yield indications are anything to go by we should see some stellar results! Looking forward to tracking varieties, farm setups & mngmt decisions to review

Last effective flower tagged 14/2/24 and one position above fully mature.
By the end of the week majority of fields will have had 1st pass defoliation done and into 2nd passes. Looking forward to see some April picked cotton this year in the Southern Valleys.

Hills are taking shape for next cotton season across the Murrumbidgee valley. This field will be gased this month then sit fallow until planting in October.
Improving our ground prep and getting hills up prior to picking has been a key focus of the Summit Ag team ✅ 🌱 🌱 🌱

Pre irrigation has been underway over the past two weeks on fallow winter crop ground prior to planting. Pre irrigation allows us to take advantage of cheap surface water & fill the profile prior to planting. It will also promote a weed germination that can be controlled. 💧 🌾

Cotton defoliation well under way. Incredible conditions have seen a number of, especially northern crops, 2 passes completed and likely that’s all they’ll get. We can’t wait to see a picker in the next couple weeks!

Last week we were lucky enough to host a ripper field day at Benerenbah looking at Mepiquat Chloride applications and timings with CSIRO . We’ve had some great feedback including some of the best grower discussion we’ve seen in ages. We can’t wait to finalise these results.

Guess who's back...
Hand lenses are out, we have seen a big influx of Whitefly numbers over the last few weeks, with warm weather they are building up quickly, the question is will the beneficial build up quick enough this late in the game?
