Born #OnThisDay 1784 William Hodgson Barrow, the oldest member of the Commons when he retired in 1874. He had represented Notts South since 1851. Disraeli described him as ‘a man of the people’. He was among the dozen Conservative MPs who supported women’s suffrage in 1867.
