To complete the first draft of any report, IPCC authors assess thousands of pieces of scientific literature. IPCC does not conduct its own research.
In the last report 786 authors assessed over 100,000 sources.

After a Scoping Meeting, the Panel of 195 member countries meet to discuss & approve the draft outline. Once approved, governments & observer organizations nominate authors, who are then selected by IPCC's Bureau.
