Big day for local news! Mirror Indy and Signal Akron launch today! Backed by American Journalism Project and other philanthropy and community leaders, these two news organizations are bringing community into their journalism from the very beginning.

I can’t quite put into words how frustrating it is that so many people express so much (seemingly genuine) concern about the dangers of disinformation, but then continue to amplify the most egregiously unreliable narrators — as if those two things are totally unrelated.

Every now and then, I’m reminded that these social platforms can bring joy *sometimes*.

Great to see KFF’s Dr. Celine Gounder elected to NAM today. As a longtime NAM member, I welcome her knowing she will add great expertise and new perspectives to the Academy, with a focus on public and global health, and on populations in greatest need.

To better understand the full scope of health misinformation today, we have to look deeper at how communities of color and rural groups are affected.

Growing research shows extreme heat disproportionately affects historically marginalized groups.

American Indian and Alaska Native people were most likely to die due to heat vs. other racial/ethnic groups. Black people had a higher rate of heat-related deaths than White people.

NEW: A new poll from KFF shows many common false claims don’t command a lot of Americans’ trust. But people aren’t necessarily rejecting those claims either.
