Tomorrow is ! To celebrate, get outside this weekend and hike some iconic Wisconsin trails. One of these is the Ice Age Trail, which goes for more than 1,000 miles along the edge of the last continental glacier in WI.

For context, the largest facility size tracked by the ag census is over 100,000 🐔. There are 33 of them in Iowa per the 2022 census, and their average size is 1.8 million chickens, so this is a really big operation.
By itself, it is 1.2% of all US laying hens.

Abandoned farmland (shaded blue to green by time since abandonment) around Hancock in central Wisconsin. Much more on the moraines to the east than on the outwash plain to the west.

Take a look at the map in this news story as well as the interactive atlas. As usual, I'm fascinated by the spatial patterns and their relationships to soils, landforms, geology, and groundwater availability

Just realized that 'best scientists = h index > 155' tweet came from the VP of Research at Johns Hopkins. Of course.

I don't want to quote tweet it, but I just read here that taking the bus when it's really crowded [which I do most weekdays when UW classes are in session] is one of the worst things a person can experience. What kind of life have you lived to think that?
