GMC was unwilling to regulate PAs/AAs but was approached by the Govt on the strength of a 2017 consultation with 3066 responses 556 of those responses were PAs despite only 262 working at time The ‘independent’ regulator of DOCTORS agreed after Govt pressure Wes Streeting MP

This is an issue of enormous public concern GMC. If your public consultation on your intended regulation of physician associates closed on 9 May why haven’t results been shared with the public? How long are you going to keep Dr Rachel Clarke & the public waiting for a response?

For the public watching this unfold, we (doctors) have to pay the GMC hundreds of £ per year to be able to practise. They are however not accountable to us in any way, and are (meant to be) independent from government. We also can't legally withhold fees.
