New paper alert wt Anne Kupczok : we found thousands of species-specific genes in the human gut microbiome (some with evid. of selection) and they mostly seem to be "grown locally" in bacteria, rather than transferred from phages. genome.cshlp.org/content/early/…
In 2018 our lab began an outreach program with a local middle school, inspired in large part by HittingerLab Wild YEAST Program. We thought we could further engage the students in the process of identifying yeast species and also learn something about S. cerevisiae diversity 1/n
New publication from the lab on microproteins in cancer! See the thread below by Marta Espinosa
Glad to see our NanoTrans paper out Journal of Genetics and Genomics We developed an all-in-one platform for Oxford Nanopore direct RNA sequencing data analysis and demonstrated its applications in diverse systems (yeast, plant, and human). Ludong Yang led the project. > sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
COFFEE doesn't help ☕ Read about work from high school students supported & mentored by Maitreya Dunham that identified multiple evolved yeast populations with mutations in multidrug resistance family and mTOR pathway genes contributing to #caffeine tolerance: bit.ly/4f1nBv1
I am super excited that one of the most interesting finding in my lab was published in Nature Microbiology !! Have you heard about the fungus that helps carnivorous plants digest insects? 🐜🍃
Happy to share the latest paper of our lab BOKU_IMMB Simone Bachleitner Gregor Lutz &Manja Severinsen demonstrate how to engineer the yeast Komagataella phaffii to produce lactic acid from methanol doi.org/10.1016/j.ymbe… The work is part of the VIVALDI H2020 project BOKU University
Really excited to see Jana Helsen's 1st postdoc research paper come out in Nature Cell Biology today. It's a tour-de-force. A few things from behind the paper - it started when in June 2020 Stanford and EMBL announced a joint Fellowship program, wherein Fellows would work jointly 1/
It’s been great working with Jacqueline Peña on Footprints of human migration in the population structure of wild wine yeast! biorxiv.org/content/10.110… .. A quick summary 🧵:
