I’ve never seen anything like this in a English church, a mermaid combing her hair with an audience of fish, by the leg of St Christopher in a 15th century wall painting Church of St Botolph, Slapton

Caught looking for apotropaic marks inscribed in to the lead bowl of Luppitt’s bizzaro Norman font in Devon. I could make something up or copy a Wiki entry but I’ve no idea what the head sacrifice, centaurs, upside down rabbits, beardy masks and knot-work that lash it all

Wander to Fast Castle this weekend with the inestimable Dr Will Wyeth. C15 and C16 remains (+bonus Iron Age well). Must have been a brutal place to be stationed but check out those views!

A remarkable Pictish ring has been discovered at Moray fort after more than 1000 years in the ground by a University dig volunteer who thought he only had a knack for finding 'shiny pebbles' abdn.io/U1

Surprised and properly chuffed to have a full auditorium for my talk on Mary of Guelders and Trinity as part of Edinburgh Museums’s series celebrating Edinburgh’s 900th! It was such fun. If you’re putting together some talks or a seminar series then please get in touch!

Before the dye-pot gets heated I put the plant-stuffs outside on a sheet to check for beasties. Glad to have spotted this caterpillar in time, what camouflage.

The non-profit I run that excavates historic Romany Gypsy sites to teach present-day Romany people archaeology skills could do with a few more pro archaeologists for 16th - 22nd in the New Forest! Can pay a decent wage though accommodation is down to you, so local is better!
