The Michaelmas daisies (Symphyotrichum novi-belgii) are in full flower at the moment and looking good in the sunshine. They self-seed quite a lot but I always find it interesting what the flowers will look like as they vary quite a lot. #autumn #plants

I became fascinated with one of my moss gardens at the weekend as the sunlight reflected in the water droplets on the moss sporangia looked quite intriguing.

The leaves of my little Parrotia persica tree have turned into the most wonderful autumn colours of crimson and gold, which also lasts quite a while. #plants

Some grasses and other perennials on the allotment look quite colourful at the moment. You don`t have to plant lots of trees to get nice autumn colours :-)

Cephalotus follicularis is quite an interesting-looking carnivorous plant from Australia. On my allotment it likes to eat ants which seem to be attracted to the pitchers. As Cephalotus is not fully hardy it will spend winter in my cold greenhouse. #plants

Last year at this time of year the allotment looked frosty and ready for winter to arrive, this year it looks quite different with everything still quite colourful as if autumn will never end, all because of the unusual warm weather.

Michaelmas daisies are still flowering, adding some splashes of colour to the allotment. They are also an important nectar source for late pollinators such as bumblebees and hoverflies.

Our Red Squirrels are back. They’ve been missing for weeks, away in the woods gorging on hazelnuts. One was feeding on cotoneaster berries this morning, in a bush against the wall of house. Nice to have them back.

I am still harvesting tomatoes outdoors, at the beginning of November! Never had this before, normally my tomatoes would have succumbed to blight by now.

Quite incredible, have just seen a horse chestnut tree which is flowering again! It is all mixed up now with the unseasonable warm weather, poor plants don`t know if it is spring or autumn anymore.

My November blog for the Hardy Plant Society is out now. It`s all about seasonal colour, pretty ferns and a little surprise visitor in the greenhouse: hardy-plant.org.uk/blog/nadine-22…

Looks like there is someone living in my little moss gardens now :-) Would not mind to live there as well as it looks so peaceful.
