People are still out here doing 'trials' with sample sizes of two (2) participants, and some science journalists are still covering them as breakthroughs.

I worry that, because lots of people don’t like Elon Musk, they’ll read this and dismiss the importance of free speech. But it’s really important, and our current laws are absolutely bonkers! Here’s the best case for a British First Amendment, by Ed West: edwest.co.uk/p/why-britain-…

This stuff is just wild. UK accounts seemingly completely unaware of the cases police have arrested people for in recent years. Start with these two: 1. bbc.com/news/uk-scotla… 2. mirror.co.uk/sport/football…

Look, here’s the thing about free speech: YES, it’s not “absolute”. Even the most hardcore free speech advocates agree that there are exceptions. Extreme case: telling e.g. Russia about UK military secrets is “just” a speech act, but it is (and should be) illegal in UK law.

It’s not that much of a “blow” to patients because, to a close approximation, this drug has no effect (and yet it has serious side effects). Glad the NHS agrees. thetimes.co.uk/article/new-al…

When I go to San Francisco I spend all my money on tons of frankly unnecessary (but still MINDBLOWING) robot taxi rides. I still can’t get over the fact that this is real.

A big part of my job these days is to think about what technical work Anthropic needs to do to make things go well with the development of very powerful AI. I digested my thinking on this, plus some of the Anthropic zeitgeist around it, into this piece: sleepinyourhat.github.io/checklist/
