One of several Victorian MPs who inspired fictional characters, Albert Grant, who died #OnThisDay 1899, is thought to have been the model for the corrupt financier Augustus Melmotte in Trollope’s The Way We Live Now. Happy twitter anniversary to TheVictorianCommons. One of my favourite of their blogs is their account of Edward Lucas as Peel's Irish under-secretary. I'm now sitting in Bedfordshire Archive reading Lucas' correspondence with the lord lieutenant, Earl de Grey. victoriancommons.wordpress.com/2016/08/23/mp-…
Likewise, we recommend following the extremely knowledgeable The Georgian Lords !

#OnThisDay 1841 Hansard recorded, ‘on the meeting of the Parliament this day, the parties had changed places, the Conservatives occupying the Ministerial, the Whigs the opposition benches’. Peel had replaced Melbourne as PM a week earlier. On Peel, see victoriancommons.wordpress.com/2020/02/05/sir…
