This is depressing, populist nonsense.

Someone just got on the train with a gorgeous and well-used dark metallic red Mercian. Always had a dream of getting a Mercian frame and building it up… If I ever get back to cycling regularly and land a small fortune…

Like, for instance, most of us would choose to fund the NHS properly.

Kodak 66 Model III, made between 1958 and 1960. Unused, expired, roll of colour Kodak film in it (developed for black and white). Camera still works beautifully (when I remembered to cock the shutter, and that it wasn't a point and shoot so I could change settings).
