Wreath Flowers (Lechenaultia macrantha) are only found in the sandy and gravelly soils of this part of the world and seem particularly highly sought by wildflower hunters, so I figured I'd better find one and see what the fuss is all about. They are indeed very pretty 🪷🌸

One of the more common #orchids seen in south west WA is the Cowslip Orchid (Caladenia flava). They seem a little later to flower in our part of the #PerthHills this year #orchid #biodiversity #ozflora #ozplants

The gorgeous and charismatic Numbat, or Walpurti, gets my vote for Marsupial of the Year. These gorgeous termite eaters are listed as endangered with their range now restricted to several small colonies in the south west of Western Australia #biodiversity #wildoz #numbat

A lone Leopard Orchid - Diuris pardina - spotted yesterday, 13/9/24, in heathland on a western-facing slope of Little Mt Majura. It’s easily the earliest I’ve seen this species in bloom in #Canberra. I was looking for a rare spider orchid, but no luck. #orchid National Parks Association ACT
