🧵Here we go again, another anti- activist in academe spouting the usual intellectually dishonest misread of Canada’s assisted dying laws, trying to convince the lay public there’s something grievously wrong.
There isn’t.
Here, the The Globe and Mail’s learned contributor

MAiD opinion pieces always cause me angst. My sister and father used MAiD. They died with dignity and were incredibly thankful it existed. theglobeandmail.com/opinion/articl…

I have been an advocate for safe sports for a very long time (example below). We absolutely need to protect athletes. But we also need to consider that *coaches* can also be bullied and harassed. This too needs to be addressed.

Canadian health care is the envy of no one, and our fierce loyalty to the mirage of a functioning system is literally killing people.

We can’t even get the basics right, and we’re adding new programs on top. This is insane.

A reviewer just stated that bullying and cyberbullying are NOT “overlapping constructs” and emphasized this point with an exclamation mark.

They ARE overlapping constructs (see Haltigan & Vaillancourt, 2018). That is, bullying is defined by degree and not by type.

We're proud of our Education ranking, moving from 85 to 77, and for our Law ranking entering the top 100 for the first time. Library management is newly ranked in the top 70 of all universities worldwide!

Reviews are in for our study. Reviewers 1, 2 & 4 thought it was very novel and clearly liked it. Reviewer 3 thought it was 💩.

I will now spend months trying to convince Reviewer 3 otherwise.

I love how in science, we kowtow to dissenting opinions like our life depends on it.

Reminded of this tweet. Funny how suggesting we should strive for civility is called “tone policing” by people who act like jerks.

ESPN has had the NBA since 2002.

But Iowa-UConn's Final Four matchup was the network's most-watched basketball game—men’s or women’s, pro or collegiate—ever.

This is probably the best evidence to date on how NPIs negatively impacted mental health. They found “significant causal effect of lockdown measures (stay-at-home and school closure orders)” on mental health. nature.com/articles/s4159…

This is an equity issue and needs to be formally addressed at universities across the world. It is unacceptable that women do 75% of committee work. I suspect it’s the same at uOttawa APUO
