Just two years after opening, HSAEL is celebrating a set of results likely to place it among the most improved schools in England, with a quarter of GCSEs awarded a top grade 8 or 9 – twice the national rate. a Well done to our amazing students and staff! harrisscienceeastlondon.org.uk/37/hsael-news/…

One of the most important things school leaders can do is make sure children are working hard every lesson. As Pritesh says, if they’re not, then that’s the thing to fix.

This may be unpopular, but I think using AI/ChatGPT to plan lessons is a bad idea because it robs us of the intellectual joy that comes from wrestling with our subjects. Thinking, reading, and translating what we know into the classroom is one of the joys of teaching.

When diving into curriculum conversations with HoDs, don’t be afraid to say “here’s how we might approach this in my subject, does that work in yours?” The answer may well be no, but in sharing a model we can provoke thought, challenge (positively), and inspire.

I’m not going to profess to know much about primary schools, but I do know that students arriving at secondary school *not* knowing their times tables is v damaging. It can set them on a spiral of decline in maths, and the remedy is almost always…times tables testing.

This is a welcome recognition from government that the weight of consequences hung on inspection had become counterproductive and needed to be lightened. I gave strong advice on this in my letter to Gillian Keegan here gov.uk/government/pub…

Good luck to all speakers at researchED today - especially the brilliant Jasmine Lane 🦡🦘 representing Trinity. Jasmine is talking through evidence-informed approaches to EAL and it will be superb.

My favourite talk of the day was Peter Tse. On BlueSky as mrptse.bsky.social talking with infectious passion about how he designed his English curriculum. It unfolds over the years with carefully selected & sequenced texts to build deep understanding & appreciation of literature. I was genuinely moved. #rED24
