I supported police clearing out those who blocked roads in the Ottawa occupation. And I now favor police clearing out the anti-Semites who are blocking roads in Toronto. That's problematic for some conservative and progressives alike. Too bad. Be consistent.

I don’t know whether Matt Ygelsias made the cut into the ranks of the "superforecasters" this year but his commentary below is super-depressingly-insightful

Prediction: We are never going to get to the bottom of ArriveCan, any more than we're ever going to get to the bottom of SNC Lavalin, or WE Charity, or the Winnipeg lab mess, or anything else. Our accountability mechanisms are just laughably weak, where they are not compromised.

A large swathe of the internet seems to believe it’s wrong to describe someone doing something bad without appending “(and that was bad)” every few paragraphs.

The thing to remember here is that environmentalism is not about reducing tons of carbon in the Earth's atmosphere, it's about abolishing industrial consumerism to usher in a pastoral utopia within pseudoscientific earth-systems boundaries.

Every European country has various laws on the books that are just like “productivity is illegal now” and then people wonder why they are poor.

This is a good point. The humanities are a small handful of people rehashing the same old ideas in increasingly pedestrian and politicized prose that no one ever reads. Social science is a huge enterprise working tirelessly to generate vast oceans of sensational new fake results.

So in summary: Biden refused to say he’d take a cognitive test, refused to say he would consider stepping down if key allies asked him to, said the polls are fake news, and that he wouldn’t fret if he lost as long as he tried his best. This is all Trumpian bullshit. Just madness.

I wrote about Joe Biden and the half-truths, implausibilities, and brain-melting rationalizations that his defenders expect the public to believe. I'll be cliche and quote Orwell: "The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears." We have to be better than this.
