#OTD in 1878, the Princess Alice steamer (with 750 people), was returning up the #Thames after visiting Gravesend. Around 7:40pm, the steamer hit the Bywell Castle, a 890-ton collier. The collier almost cut the smaller vessel in two. The Princess Alice sank in minutes #History
