Sunak is far too economically right wing for the times - and will carry on with the myth that Brexit is right and will work. It will take longer but, unless he has a Damascene conversion, his failure is guaranteed.

Such a disingenuous statement ..Johnson ‘hoped’ he, Sunak and Mourdant could come together ..he means he hoped they’d back him to be PM...he adds ‘I have much to offer’ but not now..ie his only offer to his party will be to return at some point as PM. He’ll be a disruptive force

Unless there is an unexpected surge for Mordaunt, Sunak will be PM tomorrow. He will genuinely aim to offer competent and clean government but he is far too right wing for our times. Worse: he has the albatross of believing the Brexit lie. It won’t end well.

Johnson in his statement - “ a general election would be a disastrous distraction “. Only if you are the party that is 100 per cent certain to lose.

An excellent piece on Brexit’s futility. The FT’s brilliant anti-Brexit film has +1.5 m views. All the broadsheets now commenting on the Brexit truth. Opinion is shifting. Brexit isn’t working, and Labour must be honest about it with Britain’s electorate theguardian.com/business/2022/…

Let’s hope the collapse of Trussonomics has some impact on the “experts” on Fox News and wider American opinion - as wrong as their counterparts in the UK.

Get rid of the factionalised Tory party, its ludicrous cults, delusional Brexit thinking and abuse of our institutions and Britain can get back on its feet The future offers only variants on austerity? Bunk. There are ways to invest and grow theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Whatever Sunak and Johnson discussed on Saturday night, there is no redemption for the Conservative party until it recognises Brexit is a disaster with “no opportunities”. Until then it lives and breathes a lie.

This gripping FT documentary on the effects of Brexit has now had 1.6m views in a week. Free to view. It is really worth your time - shows very clearly the economic cost of Brexit. Chapeau to producer Daniel Garrahan and the other FT folk involved youtube.com/watch?v=wO2lWm…

Johnson returning as PM by Tory activists ( including a tortoise) will lower British democracy to new depths- and is a deadly threat to our economy. The now lethal comedy that is the Tory party in government will end in farcical tragedy. Do Tory MPs not see this?

“The Tory party has shown itself inept, riven with factionalism .. and without credible economic ideas… the country must have a general election to decide its political future” The FT could hardly be clearer,The shattering of the UK’s credibility via Financial Times

What is so striking is how many conservative mps are still talking about what is “ best for the party”. It’s a real give away - that party still seemingly comes before country and constituents and democracy.
