Great article by Henry Mintzberg on our 'hopeless obsession' with Formal Structure. Mr. Mintzberg falls short on offering a solution, though, as he is unaware of #OrgPhysics : betacodex.org/white-papers/p… The fact that Formal, Informal and Value Creation Structures co-exist is crucial!

Dumb dichotomies that should never have existed:

#Decentralization means that teams in the periphery is in charge to run the business, with the center serving the periphery. Instead of the center wagging the periphery.

In this paper we argue that there isn't just #management , but that there are 2 schools of management founded 100 years ago: One Taylorist: It got recognized as 'standard-setting' in the industrial age. One Follettian: less well-understood & more scattered.
