There are a sizable number of Democrats who think the study of economics is fake. More than happy to talk about the importance of learning, literacy, the sciences, etc. except when it comes to economics which they disregard.

The main real critique of getting smartphones out of classrooms seems to be a kind of generalized aversion to the idea of enforcing any rules.

Catherine Blakespear Orgs like Surfrider California, which I used to respect, are gloating over their NIMBY victory. Which I guess makes sense - their existence is almost entirely funded by wealthy coastal homeowners who do not want more people living nearby.
