The loss of cheaper degrees via Open University has, to my mind, been one of the biggest losses in education of the past 14 years.

My other half is working at my school for a couple of weeks, so he does the driving and I get to spend my commute reading the new Alex Quigley book that I've been looking forward to since his presentation at researchED Birmingham

This research on qualifying in education is from the US context, but it’s relevant for here too. Lots of complexities relate to teacher recruitment & retention, but excellent, reliable earnings that compete against the other main professions, is vital.
