Wood Forget-me-not tackling the challenges of urban living!
Originally a woodland plant, it is now more commonly found as a garden escape.

Today, May 1, is known in Gaelic as Là Buidhe Bealltainn, the ‘yellow day of Beltane’. The marsh marigold in bloom is a symbol of the start of summer and is considered lucky. Its blooms would often be tied above doorways or to the tails of horses or cattle to bring good fortune.

Thrilled to find Goldilocks Buttercup thriving along the Allan Water tonight! With its spindly upper leaves and chunky lower leaves, and quirky lopsided flowers with between one and all five petals stunted, it’s an odd looking thing… but to me, just right! 🌼🐻🐻🐻

Be honest. Is our Honesty getting out of hand? Honestly?!

Did you know that Honesty was first recorded as an escape from gardens in Britain in 1597? No, me neither!

At first glance Comrie Colliery looks like a barren wasteland, but look a little closer and fantastic flowers start to jump out! Post-industrial landscapes can be havens for biodiversity. Small Cudweed, Sand Spurrey (probably) and Medium-flowered Wintercress blooming here!

On the eve of (and beyond!) here’s a little thread on why both mowing AND not mowing different parts of your lawn can be brilliant for wildlife. Sounds perverse? It’s all about long-grass and short-grass, and why you want both…

A fabulous swathe of Red Dead-nettle growing with Hairy Bitter-cress where construction churned up the topsoil last winter, exposing the seed bank. Great for early pollinators, and so named as the leaves are like nettle but stingless ('dead').

Interesting to see how the regeneration around isolated pines balloons out on the side of the tree opposite to the prevailing wind. With a prevailing SW wind the regeneration is on the NE side of the tree. Highlights how seed source influences the distribution of regeneration.
