I am looking to sample Hyacinthus litwinovii and more Hyacinthus transcaspicus as part of my PhD project but both seem to be rarely grown in botanic gardens or exist as herbarium material! Any help from the Twitter botany community would be appreciated 🌱🌱

Wild orchids are notoriously tricky to propagate, but if you've got time on your hands, it's perfectly possible. Nick met up with Tony Heys who's spent years perfecting the technique, as you'll discover tomorrow night at 8pm on BBC Two 🙂

These beautiful frosty plants are so important for our wildlife. The berries are still feeding our birds & small mammals. Hollow stems are providing a place for our insects to shelter through the winter. Don’t cut them yet! Late autumn colour. The only abundant deciduous species still in leaf in Silwood is the native dominant Quercus robur. A useful species for point-planting is Prunus serotina. In Silwood it turns to gold (left) but in its native North America it turns a splendid red (right).
