Shatila refugee camp in southern Beirut is not fit for human habitation yet 20,000 Palestinians live there without adequate shelter, sanitation, electricity. It’s an outworking of the Nakba and Israeli settler colonialism, and has been ongoing for 76 years. A shame on humanity.

The narrow streets of Beirut are clogged with SUVs and the yacht club full of expensive boats. According to the UN, the richest 10% of Lebanon's population own 70% of the wealth. A wealth tax on highest earners and redistribution to those clearly struggling is long overdue.

This is on President Biden, Scholz, Macron, von der Leyen, and every western leader that has enabled Israel's genocide in Gaza and 'complete siege'.

This sewing class in the Palestinian refugee camp in Rashidieh, Lebanon is recycling old clothes to make new ones for those unable to afford new clothes for the festival of Eid which marks the end of Ramadan. Its a reminder that solidarity and sharing are central to Ramadan.

Such a pleasure this morning to meet Centre for Global Ed's partner organisation in Rashidieh refugee camp in Tyre, Lebanon. The Centre is working with the Women's Programs Association, a Palestinian NGO, on an education project for children aged 12-16 who have dropped out of school.
