Pharma giants are flush with cash, and they are eager to put this money to use. As many lucrative patents approach expiration and new cures become harder to find, they are outsourcing much of the innovating to the biotech sector econ.st/44E0JwZ 👇

Pushing back against each new request is my new mantra. If we don’t, there won’t be any time to do proper work

Its interesting that the clinical trials 'one stop shop' is being widely celebrated by health research bureaucrats but not by researchers themselves.... health.gov.au/ministers/the-…

I have to repost this today because the msg is so important and is not being heard. UQ News and others implement procedures with no evidence that they protect patients or aid the research endeavour of the university - and no one is listening

Just read a kind msg from a colleague. Soldier on through the challenges of bureaucracy. I've been working at it for 4yrs and my study will start in July. Is this what clinical research has become? Is that what patients need? UQ News Brain Masud Husain

Universities are now much like banks pre 2008. Over leveraged (on student markets), senior leaders beyond accountability. In Australia they managed COVID support much like Qantas did theguardian.com/australia-news…

Astrocytes - forgotten for so long but at the heart of much that goes awry in the injured brain - in AD in this case

In today's world capt Edward Smith would have recorded a podcast on 'leadership', posted it on LinkedIn - and would have been thanking the sycophants for their kind comments - just as the iceberg started to grind against the hull 🙄🤣 Associate Deans

I think I would prefer our leaders to demonstrate their leadership abilities at work and within the university, rather than posting on LinkedIn about 'traits of good leaders'. Am I wrong to think it's a turn up at work and 'do' thing?

This is tragic reading. It needs to be called out for what it is really, the 'NHS is best in the world' rhetoric is long out of date. There should be an enquiry into the response to coroners' reports The Labour Party bbc.com/news/health-68…

The Economist has published an analysis of the economic consequences of neurological disease. Traumatic brain injury is the single highest. Rehabilitation for Parkinson's Disease has the most impact (but benefits other diseases too). Sponsored by Roche. impact.economist.com/perspectives/s…

Charlotte Summers Academy of Medical Sciences There really is an existential threat to clinician scientists. We all agree. We don't need more reports. We need action to dismantle the bureaucratic obstacles that beset our daily lives. These have ostensibly arisen to protect us & patients, for which there is no evidence base.

Craig Anderson summarises the evidence on BP lowering after hemorrhage. Emergency treatment of ICH is my bet for the biggest change of practice in next 10 years. But we need the evidence about evacuation. And we need high acuity medical management of BP/ bleeding
