A pleasant but windy pm on Friday, with 15 species recorded, including Nephus quadrimaculatus (Ivy LB), Scymnus haemorrhoidalis (Red-rumped LB), Stethorus pusillus (Dot LB), and the smallest 14-spot I've ever seen, with 16-spot for comparison.

I might be wrong (experts ⁦Gail Ashton 💚🪲🌍⁩ ⁦Dominic Couzens⁩ what do you reckon?) but perhaps this is an Alder leaf beetle party? I mean, it’s certainly a beetle party.

Since finding my first Scymnus interruptus (Red-flanked LB) in Shropshire in Sept 21, I've constantly looked in my work monad for it, and today, I finally found one!! Also pleased to see my 2nd S. auritus (Oak LB) of the year!

Lots of insect activity in the garden at lunchtime today. Love the colour of this weevil, Hypera nigrirostris, which I've seen a few times before but this one is new for the garden Coleopterists Society of Britain and Ireland

Hawthorn Leaf Beetle (Lochmaea crataegi): I found 4 of these on Nettles, under/ near Hawthorns in my hedges yesterday. Never seen them before and surprisingly there are only a few Irish records. Biodiversity Ireland Coleopterists Society of Britain and Ireland

1/2 no. 228 is Cliff Tiger Beetle (Cyilndera germanica). A small, plainish tiger beetle of southern, south-facing soft rock cliffs. Nationally Rare, Vulnerable and Section 41. I have seen them in numbers on just one day at the start of June.

The five British tiger beetles from E F Linssen's Beetles of the British Isles (1959) in the classic Wayside & Woodland. All are nationally rare or scarce apart from the first, the common Green Tiger Beetle.
