Each story I hear adds to my sense that something must be done to challenge this. When a woman is labelled as having borderline personality disorder she is no longer believed.

Hard disagree. You can’t just “learn on the job” to become a doctor.

The progressive dumbing down of what is needed to become a doctor is terrifying.

Repeat after me:

The only solution is hiring Drs, who are TRAINED to make decisions earlier and are TRAINED to handle the responsibility of their decision making.

Thinking outside algorithms.

Thinking of medicine as an art and not an exact science, or set of guidelines that can’t be breached.

Doctors often use the questionable line “I’m not political”

Some things go way beyond politics

And this includes the senseless killing of innocents (including our brave colleagues)

I’ve lived through war. Been one of those children hiding from bullets and bombs. Trauma lasts forever. Easy to hate.

This is not what the PA role was meant to be & for any PAs who aren’t or won’t be satisfied with the limitations of the role, you should do what I (and others) have done and go to medical school.

How many of us came into mental health work with a wish to get to know people, their stories, make a trusting relationship, understand and ease their suffering and then find that this is not what we do? And if we do manage this it is in spite of the system we work in...

What all of these statements appear to lack is 'if local trusts breach our guidance, then the consequence will be X' - none of them mean much without teeth. 'Any centre found to be in breach will have all RCS accreditation removed' etc - something needed

I completely disagree with what RCPsych is doing here. On so many levels.

strugglingmedic I don’t comment on individual situations as we don’t have the full picture but what I see is short termism and strategies that don’t work being used over and over, a shortage of qualified staff, less lasting relationships and sadly sometimes a worrying lack of care and compassion
