David Goodhart I think your final paragraph is the key to the entire question - is the country our home or a hotel? If the latter then the upsides to solidarity and sharing are likely to be lost. That’s sad.

David Goodhart writes about why he is more pessimistic about 'too much' ethnic diversity (too fast) than in 2004. One feature of last two decades is rhetoric about reducing migration (post-2010) & rhetoric of critiquing multiculturalism but patchy policy vacuum on integration
