Another day, another modern-day record: global sea surface temperatures are now up to 21.19°C.

By comparison, the 2023 record was 21.09°C, held from August 22-26.

One way to see just how truly 'gobsmackingly bananas' North Atlantic sea surface temperatures are right now is to remove the 'less anomalous' year 2023 from the graph.

This just looks impossible in real life.

UNBELIEVABLE footage of the Ruang volcano erupting in Indonesia. It just had an extremely powerful eruption with ash clouds potentially punching into the stratosphere at 19,000 meters. A tsunami warning is also now in effect due to the powerful blast.

Many people have no idea how these things work.

For example, right now, as a Brazilian, I can't accept invitations to speak at conferences in Europe because my visa to work in the U.S. has expired.
I am not illegal; I have a work contract with the University of California until…

AIMS science leaders + AIMS, highlight the important role science plays in understanding events and developing solutions to improve reef resilience.

But, above all, urgent action to curb the effects of global climate change is vital.

It's getting harder and harder to write these stories about and I don't really know what to do. It distresses me and I feel powerless to stop the dying. insideclimatenews.org/news/15042024/…

It is sad to see that global coral bleaching is occurring again. 1998, 2010, 2014-17, now 2023-?. We need to take every action possible to abate the climate crisis and we need to do it now!
