Well said Helen Oakleigh (most articulate person in the room)

No response from the panel because of total ignorance of .

Yes we need a ‘multidisciplinary’ approach. There is no multidisciplinary team without a radiologist. Now you have one… longcovid.org/about/our-advi…

There is no other situation 🌍 in which 6 million people have been kept under siege for almost 2 years like in , Ethiopia. This is a health crisis. I urge the intl. community to give this crisis the attention it deserves. There is a narrow window now to prevent genocide.

UK Cardiologist Rae Duncan explains Long COVID beautifully.

Abnormal, prolonged immune response damages the inner lining of blood vessels.

Micro clots form, of abnormal molecular structure, that the body’s usual mechanisms can’t get rid of.

They show up in various organs.

The research is telling us that at population health level infection is resulting in more cardiovascular disease, arterial and venous clots and brain changes (even if recovered). I’m worried about what this means for our kids and am trying to raise awareness ⬇️

dentistry is a mess. It’s a mess for dentists and patients. It doesn’t need to be, but it is. It’s an example of chaotic privatisation of health, creating huge inequalities. In some areas, NHS dentists aren’t taking patients leading to pressures on , 111 or A&Es.

A moderated discussion is exactly what I’ve been calling for. We need a systematic collaborative interdisciplinary approach to understanding . All specialties need to come to the table and cross fertilise understanding, both about the pandemic and the disease itself.

I have not previously commented on transmission of and have been challenged to do so.

It occurs to me that not wearing a mask in a crowded indoor space is a bit like not having a mosquito net in a malaria endemic area.

In this analogy, you are the mosquito.

This pilot study using antiviral chewing gum suggests to me that the mouth is a key source of aerosol/droplet transmission (rather than the lungs)

When asking, what’s the cause of symptom X?
don’t just ask, what’s the diagnosis?
Ask, what’s the mechanism?

Diagnosis = a label to help determine treatment options

Understanding cause doesn’t stop at diagnosis. It should include exploration of disease mechanism

And who is going to report the images?

We don’t have enough radiologists and it takes 12 years minimum to train.

Dear fellow doctors

This is the mouth.

Contrary to all our training it turns out it is part of the body after all.

It’s a powerful immune organ. If you don’t look after it the health of the whole body suffers.

Agree. I say give all the money to public health and preventative medicine. What’s left goes to emergency medicine and other things that makes a difference.
I’m a bit tired of reporting detailed scans on countless people with potentially preventable disease.

Why pharmacists need training about why antibiotics are futile for toothache. The NHS tells us to ‘Do it once - do it right.’ Procedures cure toothache - not prescriptions. People with toothache need to see a dentist for a procedure. Antibiotics don’t cure toothache.
