I write about the connection between racism, poor health, and poor sleep among Black people in my book 'Black Health' because no matter how good your sleep hygiene is, it's hard to be healthy in an unhealthy world. And a lack of sleep is connected to so many other health issues.

I often begin my work with my own personal stories of medical racism and I’m always surprised at how many people are shocked that I experience it even after becoming a Black health researcher. Medical racism knows no class or professional bounds. It can harm any person of color.
