MEDIA: Today's International Energy Agency World Energy Outlook report shows that the answer to the world’s energy, climate, food insecurity & economic crises is the same – scaling back fossil fuels and scaling up renewables.Canada Energy Regulator must follow this example:

Islands deserve not just to survive but to THRIVE. Islands incur huge debt to rebuild after climate disasters.

Developing countries are drivers of growth - an will yield global benefits. Justin Trudeau, time for Canada to step up!

A nice UN Environment Programme visual scathingly confirming CAN-Rac Canada and Ecojustice analysis: our current NDC and ERP do not meet 🇨🇦's climate obligations - international and domestic. These plans need to be strengthened!

IEA's is out! tl;dr -- it swats away arguments that 'the world needs more Canadian oil and gas' in the wake of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. /1

When Steven Guilbeault and Justin Trudeau tell you to celebrate our recent, tiny 'progress' on climate, show them this table from 2022 report
Our government told the UN, they do not intend to meet the target they've committed to the Paris Agreement
Clearly, this must change!

The dream & the nightmare in one figure:

Dream: Current policy settings are estimated to lead to a peak in all fossil fuels before 2030

Nightmare: A long, protracted plateau leading to ~2.5°C warming in 2100, & rising thereafter

21 of 40 indicators are “well off track”.

*All* our finance indicators fall in this category.

Finance is a critical enabler, but govts spent almost $700bn on fossil fuels in 2020 - failing to deliver on the PA goal of aligning financial flows with #1.5oC. 2/5

Today, the UN announced the 🌎’s current climate pledges put us on track for a disastrous 2.5°C of warming - meaning far more & worse heatwaves, flooding, fires, and drought.

We can’t compromise with science. Delay in phasing out fossils comes at the expense of people’s lives.

Latest UN Climate Change report is no good news. National climate plans remain insufficient to keep 1.5 within reach, save lives & livelihoods.

Emissions need to be cut 45% by 2030, but they’re set to increase 10.6%.

Govt's must get serious & urgently bridge the ambition and action gap!
