The FBI released its annual crime data for the 2021 calendar year.

Based on statistics submitted by the ColumbiaPD, the city of Columbia saw a rise in violent crimes.

However, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office reported a decrease of violent crime. KOMU 8 News

According to the FBI Crime Data Explorer, violent crime is defined as homicide, aggravated assault, rape, and robbery.

One of the ways ColumbiaPD is trying to help decrease the amount of crime in 2022 and the future is through the FUSUS surveillance software.

The camera system was approved by Columbia’s Downtown Leadership Council today and will recommend it the City Council to pass. KOMU 8 News
