The Smokehouse Creek Fire in the Texas Panhandle is the largest wildfire in Texas history, spanning the size of Rhode Island. The fire is an estimated 1,058,482 acres and 87% contained.

Our Wildland Fire and law enforcement teams are assisting with #SmokehouseCreekfire response in the Panhandle, currently at about 500,000 acres.

Our hearts are with those affected by the fire as we work to contain it.

⚠️ UPDATE: A shelter is available for evacuees at the Warford Activity Center located at 1330 NW 18th Ave., Amarillo, TX.

🚨ALERT 🚨 9:48pm: A mandatory evacuation order has been issued for the MESSILLA PARK SUBDIVISION (near E Willow Creek Drive and N Eastern Street in Potter County). Residents should evacuate now. River Road ISD has opened an evacuation shelter.

Office of Emergency Mgmt is monitoring the situation now. We’ll keep you updated.
