Following the humanitarian conference for #Sudan in Paris, I spoke with former prime minister Hamdok in Berlin about the root causes of the conflict & possibilities for peace & civilian leadership. 🇩🇪 supports his efforts to form a civilian counterweight to the warring generals.

It was a pleasure to close the civilian seminar of the #SudanConference in Paris alongside envoys from France and Germany. I am encouraged by the spirit of dialogue and commitment to sustainable peace by this diverse group. We will remain steadfast at the side of 🇸🇩 civilians.

We do not lose sight of conflicts like #Sudan . If the world community pulls together, we can get the two generals to the negotiating table & there to a ceasefire. To achieve this, we need to better coordinate the different mediation initiatives. 1/3

Half of #Sudan 's population depends on aid to survive. If we do not take decisive action, 1 million people are at risk of starvation. Germany is therefore mobilizing a further €244 million & calls on all states to take heart & make a contribution. 2/3

Sustainable peace will only come to #Sudan when its civil society & women have a seat at the table. The country’s future should not be determined by the military. That is why we are supporting the civil society in formulating a common perspective for the future of Sudan. 3/3
