Dr. Zulfiqar Bhutta was awarded the 2022 John Dirks Canada Gairdner Global Health Award “For the development and evaluation of evidence-based interventions in child and maternal health for marginalized populations, focusing on outcomes for the ‘first thousand days’ of life.'

Dr. Deborah Cook was awarded the 2022 Canada Gairdner Wightman Award 'For pioneering research that has developed and defined evidence-based critical care medicine in Canada, informing best practices around the world.'

Dr. Cook was presented the 2022 Canada Gairdner Wightman Award by Lieutenant Governor Elizabeth Dowdeswell (Elizabeth Dowdeswell), Paul O'Bryne, Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences McMaster University, Heather Munroe-Blum, Chair of Gairdner’s Board of Directors, & Sommer Wedlock, Gairdner EVP.

Dr. John Dick was awarded a 2022 Canada Gairdner International Award 'For the discovery and characterization of leukemic stem cells, providing insights into the understanding, diagnosis and treatment of acute myeloid leukemia.'

Dr. Dick was presented the 2022 Canada Gairdner International Award by Dr. Kevin Smith (Dr. Kevin Smith), President and CEO of University Health Network, Heather Munroe-Blum, Chair of Gairdner’s Board of Directors, and Sommer Wedlock, Gairdner EVP.

Dr. Stuart Orkin was awarded a 2022 Canada Gairdner International Award 'For the discovery of the molecular mechanism responsible for the switch from fetal to adult hemoglobin gene expression during human development...'
