Canada🇨🇦has posted updated administration stats.💉💪
Just 1665 doses administered in last 4 weeks (out of 2,110,331).
🤔Raises questions about the millions of doses already delivered... and about future production at the NRC facility?🇨🇦💉🏭

Cholera vaccine shortage impacts WHO response amidst multiple outbreaks.
Meanwhile, even as is being discontinued, , the FDA-approved vaccine for travellers (that recycled its way to a ) is also not currently being manufactured.

MSF is warning that the health and humanitarian situation in Haiti is continuing to deteriorate.
We are admitting more than 100 patients per day to our cholera treatment centres.
Hospitals are not functioning. Women can't access lifesaving obstetric care.

Good this is finally happening... but why on earth did it take so long to get from these previous steps to actually conducting a consultation? Can't blame 2018/2019 on COVID...

This piece is... odd. Another interesting question for Health Canada researchers to answer would be why key drugs to treat it - at least those considered for this indication by the WHO - are no longer formally available in Canada.

Doing some last minute conference prep/archeological digging through what now amounts to years of news reports on Canada, COVAX & vaccine hoarding, and being reminded how much good work on this topic has come from the likes of Geoffrey York Alex Boyd Mia Rabson👍.

As an aside, I hadn't realized that before it was recycled for FDA approval and a Priority Review Voucher as Vaxchora, an earlier iteration of this particular vaccine was being sold in Canada as Mutacol (until it was discontinued).

Today in Max Bell School of Public Policy’s The Bell Newsletter, I write about Canada’s problem with clinical trial transparency.

What’s the problem, and why should you care?

Great to see vaccines in clinical trials. Reminder: this particular💉was developed by the Public Health Agency of Canada, but🇨🇦lacks a lab-to-patient pathway absent commercial interest.
Now if only the 💉in the same licensing deal was similarly progressing.

Interesting update on the vaccine. Still curious if scale-up challenges are financial/technical etc.🇨🇦💉
(also still curious what WHO would have done if this were the only, or clearly the best, vaccine. Or if were the answer for ...).

COVAX did not fail because it was badly designed says Mike Ryan at :
'We failed because of the greed of the north. We failed because of the greed of the pharmaceutical industry. We failed because of self-interest in certain member states, who were not prepared to share'
