Dear little Ned, he's such a funny little boy. He loves nest-making so I've given him a whole bed of paper, with extra in his toilet next door.
An intrepid explorer, he takes each piece on the longest journey, often through the 'river', before finally adding it to his nest.😊

Hedgehogs don't have a fight or flight response, so when you poke a stick under your bonfire the hedgehog hiding there won't come running out.
He'll curl into a ball.
And as you carefully light just one side and the first smoke fills his lungs, he'll curl tighter.
Please MOVE IT

Darling little Ned Looks so much better now. His eyes are clear and his skin is recovering and his feet are all mended.
He's still a tiny little hog for his age, but he's growing and gaining daily, and is full of energy and curiosity - exactly how a healthy little hog should be.

If you are starting to build your bonfire for next week, please remember NOT to build it on the spot where it will be lit. You need to move it the day you light it, or fence off the building area NOW, to prevent wildlife deaths.

Darling little Ned used to rush round his pen, pointlessly pacing. Now he rushes round his pen..but with a point - he's on a brave mission to build the biggest nest (or make me the biggest mess). Oh how I love to see this busy little boy behaving perfectly normally now.

Dear little baby Ned is making such good recovery now. His poos are solid and he's eating well and gaining weight. This morning he was exactly double his arrival weight, and is a proper plump little handful now, compared to the frail little bag of bones he was 3 weeks ago.

Dear little Ned's feet have healed nicely, so I can begin his ringworm treatment baths.
He wasn't too keen, so found a clever way of cutting the bath short. 😁

Now that baby Ned is feeling a bit better and gaining weight nicely, I'll start his ringworm treatment. You can see the slightly thickened skin around his eye; nowhere near enough reason for intervention normally.
But as he's here for a while he might as well get the full MOT.😊

A hedgehog out in the open in the day is sick.
It's unnatural behaviour for a nocturnal animal.
Please don't ignore her, or tuck her away, or bring her indoors and try to feed her better.
She's dying.
It's an emergency.
Only a rescue can save her life.
Please be her ambulance.

When Ned was first spotted, his running was taken as a sign of health and energy.
In fact he was desperately trying to run away from the pain inside him.
A hedgehog out in the open in the day is seriously ill, no matter what his appearance, and needs taking to a rescue urgently.

Although poor little Ned still paces (he no longer has pain but it sometimes becomes a temporary behavioural pattern with babies who have been traumatised) he now stops to eat (he's gained another 4g) and last night the instinct to nest-make kicked in, but not quite the knack.🥰

Hot off the press - this afternoon little Ned does a poo that's not a puddle! Not quite solid, but what a massive improvement, I'm so pleased.
And he gained 2g today.

Poor little Ned has borne so many injections I've been giving him some oral hydration specially formulated to help heal the gastrointestinal tract, in hopes that he'll drink it himself.
And he finally did.
And ate a little food.
I can't stop smiling at this tough little kid.

Dear little Ned is a tiny bit brighter but his weight of just 166g remains the same - as fast as I hydrate him he loses it with diarrhorea - and he still paces (much to Esme's delight. It's live cat TV!). But I've treated his poor sore feet and they are looking much better.
