Spinning this as a win is an absolute insult to every family that was evicted over a decade ago. 48 units is a disgrace compared to the 284 units promised. Holborn is making out like fucking thieves.

'Nurses are shockingly being instructed to teach patients...'

to consume drugs more safely while in hospital so they won't either leave against medical advice or die upon discharge

weird that health authorities prefer people be alive given that elected officials insist they die

Betty Aldworth of MAPS is right: “Public safety would be better served—more lives would be saved—if the dollars spent on workplace testing for fentanyl were immediately diverted to evidence-based treatment and overdose prevention activities.'

If people were really concerned about fueling organized crime, they would look at the policies that create the conditions for organized crime to profit

Safer supply seizures make up a tiny fraction of the total drug seizures. The bulk is fentanyl, cocaine, meth, and counterfeit…

Some people are talking more about small interventions (like safer supply) created to try and blunt the impact of toxic illicit drugs than they are about the ACTUAL POISONED ILLICIT FENTANYL that’s killing 6+ people a day in BC. 🤯

It’s completely nonsensical.

Decriminalization is meant to get cops, courts & jails out of our lives. It is not meant to get us clean or solve all other problems in society. Remember when critics blamed homelessness (and everything else) on Insite? The right in BC wants to follow Oregon & RE-criminalize us.

NHRC vehemently opposes the criminalization of people who are houseless. Everyone deserves to have a roof over their head, & criminalizing poverty is wrong. Any step to criminalize people who are houseless will greatly impact people who use drugs, putting lives at risk.

Don't believe the conservative hype. There is no 'addiction crisis.' Stats Canada notes a decrease in prevalence of 'Substance Use Disorder' from 2012-2022. Dillies are not creating a 'new opioid epidemic.' But those of us already wired are dying fast.

The 'Living on the EIDGE' zine is officially out!

Steering dove into this project after seeing how twisted media narratives became around Bill 34. They produced original writing, graphics, did multiple interviews, and more, to tell their own stories.

'Would overdoses have increased without decriminalization? Almost certainly. Deaths are increasing because the drug supply is poisoned, not because it’s no longer a crime to possess.'
