To all the volunteers & members of Kenya Red Cross and all other #RedCross #RedCrescent societies globally, happy #WorldRedCrossDay #RedCross Day #RedCrescent Day
Thank you for being an integral part of your communities in preventing & alleviating human suffering.
This is Kisumu, Kenya. Today.
Kenya is bearing the brunt of the #ClimateCrisis
Hundreds killed, thousands displaced by the #Floods . The humanitarian situation is dire. Urgent need to scale up assistance to the affected population. IFRC Kenya Red Cross
Thank you Prof for the continous support from USAID to Kenya Red Cross & the poeple of Kenya.
Our experience is yet again another reminder, that we must mobilise resources urgently and at the right scale, to support communities adapt to #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis
In agreement with Hon. Peninah Malonza, E.G.H
Kenya Red Cross continues to discharge it's mandate as a public statutory orgns, auxiliary to the government in the humanitarian field.
We value the continued support, including financial support, from #GoK in delivering on that mandate.
Frame 1 :The extent of flooding along Tana River
Expansive Farmlands under water. Livelihoods lost. Recovery period will be longer than the rain season
Frame 2: Families getting displaced. Size of IDP camps in Garissa growing by the day.
Thanks International Centre for Humanitarian Affairs for the maps
A new day.
More communities in need and cut off by floods.
The start of a new shift for our response teams.
The energy is amazing. Our #Volunteers are inspiring.

.Ahmed Idris tells Sky News #Kenya & other #African nations 'bearing brunt' of climate-related extreme weather like current #floodske ; pic, Kenya Red Cross response team in action in Mathare, #Nairobi last week; Prof. Liz Stephens on what needs to be done - bit.ly/4beKXdS
It is now the second time Kenya is affected by floods in less than a year.
We need emergency assistance like the one provided by Kenya Red Cross in support of Government efforts.
But we also need longer term solutions to the climate crisis.
Thank you ASG Reena Ghelani for the words of encouragement & support.
The impact of climate change affects the poor disproportionatly. Women and young children bear the brunt of displacement and suffering.
We must prioritise mobilisation of #climatefinance for #Adaptation
So much to celebrate from this experience. Well done to the team from International Centre for Humanitarian Affairs who showed the value of #LocalPartnerships , #Innovation and #tech to support a #humanitarian response.
