Assessment should be thought of as nothing more than information I (a teacher) need so I can be a more effective in that context. So as I’m learning more about kids, I’m learning more about the type of teacher I need to be. This is an iterative cycle that shouldn’t ever stop.

Co-facilitated an event last night for 30+ schools. A student says, “you came to my class last year.” I ask about the school. I was there. Student says, “I was wearing a Wu Tang shirt, you told me your favourite Wu Tang songs then asked about mine.” This is why we do what we do.

Came across this from a few years ago. Sharing because education does such a good job of pendulum swinging (eg, the science of math, back to basics etc). But what needs to be kept at the forefront is what is most important for kids beyond what a singular narrative can provide.
