Just opened in Berlin: a spectacular exhibition by the Kupferstichkabinett on the Rome drawings of Maarten van Heemskerck (1498-1574). The centerpiece: an enclosure with transparent walls displaying pages from Heemskerck’s sketchbook around a plaster cast of the Belvedere Torso.

1/ Since 1985, the MFA had this coffin in the collection--with a wholly incorrect provenance provided by the seller. It was actually scientifically excavated in 1920 & sent to Uppsala, Sweden for the university museum. From there, it disappeared--but returned home this spring...
