A younger Cedar Waxwing that has not gotten the waxy red tips on the ends of their wings yet. The older the Cedar Waxwing, the more red tips they have.

An Indigo Bunting's feathers are actually black, not blue. Their feathers distort the way light is reflected, making the male birds appear blue. As the angle of reflected light changes, the color can shift from blue to turquoise, as seen in this photo.

Soras are secretive marsh bird so I was excited to see them in my backyard marsh. A Sora chick - who is getting in adult feathers but still has a good amount of downy fluff - emerged from the reeds. The chick paused for a moment before running on the lily pads to cross the water

I focus my phone on my hand before offering snacks, and this smart Downy landed nearby. He takes off before grabbing a snack, but grabs a peanut after a White-breasted Nuthatch and a Red-bellied Woodpecker stop by.

The crown of the Eastern Kingbird is usually concealed, but the wet weather showed the yellow and red feathers on this bird's noggin. Typically these bright feathers are not seen unless the bird is attacking and driving away a predator.

A male Indigo Bunting calling to his young ones. The young ones were deep in the grasses, but I occasionally had a glimpse of them hopping about.
