The United States pointedly refuses to support any independent investigation into the mass graves uncovered in Gaza, instead endorsing the view that the accused can investigate its own crimes.

We've seen how this works - it doesn't.

One of the few, if only, senior mainstream Canadian journalists doing consistently stellar work on Palestine and Israel since October 7th, with a focus on how it intersects with international law, Canadian domestic politics and foreign policy. Deep respect to you, Evan Dyer.

How often have we seen an impartial, independent, effective investigation by on allegations of war crimes and systematic abuse by its forces?

NEVER.

That's why we urgently need a truly independent investigation in . And all democratic States must support it.

The Wall Street Journal's Editorial Board is explicitly endorsing the position that Western States - the 🇺🇸 + 🇬🇧 - should directly interfere with the 's investigation into the situation in Palestine.

The upshot? If they're spouting this drivel, it's a good sign for justice.

Canada should sanction those responsible for settler violence.

And it should also look closer to home & investigate any citizens or companies complicit in the theft of land & who have purchased property in illegal settlements, in violation of international law.

It's also time for a proper & full investigation into any Canadians who have bought land on illegal settlements in the West Bank.

The settlements are a blatant violation of international law. Canada has an obligation to investigate and prosecute citizens who violate int'al law.

I find it very troubling that now Israel, a party to a dispute at the ICJ, is using a BBC interview as authority to interpret an order of the Court in ways that contradict the individual written opinions of sitting ICJ judges. Seriously, what was Judge Donoghue thinking

From MSF today: 'We have responded to 3 mass casualty events at South Hospital in El Fasher over the past week and treated over 100 wounded patients. There is also a catastrophic malnutrition crisis in Zamzam camp that requires a massive scale-up in the humanitarian response.'

Someone please explain Mr Netanyahu the difference between the right to self-defence (which is not the focus of the International criminal court here) and the perpetration of war crimes, crimes against humanity or even genocide (also by Hamas or Hisbollah btw)

With Netanyahu genuinely scared of the issuing warrants & Lebanon accepting the Court's jurisdiction (meaning Israeli + Hezbollah attacks will fall under its jurisdiction), a reminder that 🇨🇦 has now committed to supporting the ICC's 🇵🇸 investigation: opencanada.org/can-a-watered-…

One of Darfur's biggest cities, El Fasher, is now a 'kill box', analysts say. The city is under a tightening siege by RSF forces, with its escape routes cut off. Fuel and water are running out. And the RSF has committed massacres in other Darfur cities.

Huge if it happens.

This would give the ICC jurisdiction over crimes committed on Lebanese territory (by, say, the IDF) and crimes committed by Lebanese nationals (like, say, Hezbollah).

Bear in mind, Israel also placed its case before the justices as to why there wasn’t a risk of irreparable harm to the Palestinians’ right to be protected from genocide (long-winded, I know), but this was rejected.

And the Court has since issued provisional measures again.

“The Court decided that the Palestinians had a plausible right to be protected from genocide […] it did emphasise in the order that there was a ‘risk’ of irreparable harm to the Palestinian ‘right’ to be protected from genocide”.

Why was there a risk?

Read paras 70-74 of PM1.
