'Pasta' lateral cotransduction. This was our abstract cover art submission to Cell. The editors went with something else but it was fun working with Nanoclustering Scientific Illustration to create it.

Very excited to share a new pre-print from my post-doctoral work in the Martin Jinek lab at UZH Science.

In this pre-print we describe the structure and function of the Shedu anti-phage defense system.

The new investigation conducted by Prof. Wilson and his team highlights the mechanism of antibiotic binding and the pivotal role of water molecules. DCI-Lausanne was happy to participate in this study, by collecting high-resolution data.

If bacteria are good at taking up DNA from their environment, did anyone check if the bacteria found in cemeteries have a higher proportion of human genetic sequences? πŸ˜‚

Could not resist.
Making that figure in 2019, I thought the newly uncovered diversity of antiphage systems was already incredible.
We now know it was just the tip of the iceberg. I hope our new review will help people dive into this wonderful field.

Highly recommend to work with the DCI team, they are absolute experts at cryoEM and have helped me and our lab prepare samples and collect some amazing clean and high resolution datasets! 2.1A is our record so far that I am trying to beat!

Cool idea! I just tried it with amino acid sequences. It did not perform well on the Foldseek SCOP domain benchmark. It mostly found the identical hit first, followed by FPs. It might be too hard, though.

ChatGPT reflects American norms and values. The mismatch has been demonstrated in research from the University of Copenhagen. The AI spun web of cultural bias is a major problem according to the study’s researchers: shorturl.at/cqxHV#chatGPT

Beautiful spotted jellies patrolling seagrass beds. Like corals, these jellies have symbiotic algae and love to be in shallow sunlit waters.
